I think that there is a certain freedom in building something with your bare hands and using your imagination to create something valuable out of something that has no value. Art can be found almost anywhere if you look hard enough and beauty can be found in some of the strangest things. This is especially why I like working with steel.. Steel is a very tough, durable material yet it can also be easily altered in many ways using the right equipment. There is a discipline to be learned when working with steel. If you don't respect it and learn the proper ways to manipulate it, steel can be very unforgiving. And that's the beauty of steel, that something so strong and unforgiving can be transformed into something creative and unique that will last for many generations. Here is some of the sculptures and metal artwork that I have produced over the years:
This is a 3D sculpture of a Sandhill Crane that I fabricated for the "Crooked Crane Trail" at Patterson Lake. I designed this piece from using their logo and building it to scale using flatbar, steel shaft and plate.
Here’s one of the most intricate railings that I’ve ever built. I fabricated this amalgamation of steel and wood approximately 8 years ago and although I refer to it as a “railing”, it is functional and serves a purpose, I like to think of it more like a sculpture or a work of art. I heated and bent assorted sizes of steel shaft to create the branches and used salvaged Ash logs to create the posts.
Over the years I have designed and built a wide variety of 3D multi-layered metal signs. Here's a few examples:
Here's a few custom benches that I've fabricated.
Here's some of the art shows that I've attended over the years where I promote and sell metal artwork
Gladstone Firefighter Memorial
This is a cross that I fabricated for the Gladstone Volunteer Firefighter Memorial. I made the cross out of steel and tried to make it appear to be wood. I hand-forged the axes and the piece is attached to a piece of granite with the names of Firefighters who have passed away engraved in it.
Here's a set of unique trophies that I designed and built for the UND Malpractice bowl that they hold each year.
Here's some of the unique trophies that I designed and built for the Legendary Tattoo Expo.
